Oreo Ice Cream Cake
With just 3 ingredients, this homemade Oreo ice cream cake is the easiest dessert ever and is a regular request for my kids birthdays!
Everyone needs an easy dessert recipe in their arsenal that can be whipped up quickly and is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser every time.
If you need one, then you have come to the right place because this ice cream cake has been on repeat for years – Lily’s birthdays (always her cake request), vacation, July 4th – and it is super easy.

The base of this recipe was first introduced to me by two of my ER coworkers (thanks Colleen and Anne!, and it can be customized in so many ways and for any occasion.
For Lily’s birthday, I make it with crushed Oreos and serve it with freshly cut strawberries. Gracie, on the other hand, prefers my mint Oreo ice cream cake. Personally, I’m obsessed with both of them.
There are never leftovers when I make this recipe, and over the summer my family requests this recipe for just about any occasion that requires a dessert.
In fact, the other day I made a chocolate eclair cake and Gracie said, ” Mommy this is ok, but I would much rather have your ice cream cake.”

Oreo Ice Cream Cake
Ingredients
- 24 ice cream sandwiches
- 16 oz whipped topping, lite
- 30 chocolate oreos (2 sleeves)
- strawberries, sliced optional
Instructions
- Crush all of the Oreos in a bowl and set aside.
- Layer a glass 9×13 dish with approx 12 ice cream sandwiches.
- Mix half the crushed Oreos in 8oz whipped topping and spread over the ice cream sandwiches.
- Layer with another 12 ice ceam sandwiches.
- Lay the next 12 ice cream sandwiches and spread the remaining whipped topping over top and sprinkle on the leftover oreos.
- Freeze for approx 1 hour.

I love this recipe. I have made it before using butterfinger candy bars instead of oreos. I like to mix my crushed butterfingers with the whipped topping and spread it on top of the ice cream sandwiches and then add more crushed butterfingers for garnish. Yum!!!

Looks delicious. Easy, fast, kids will love it. So will ice cream-crazed husband. Not so sure you should be using the trademarked “Oreo” when you are CLEARLY not using Nabisco Oreos.
