Meal Plan #88 & Lemon Cleaning Hacks
Happy meal planning Monday! Enjoy this week’s healthy recipes and 7 lemon cleaning hacks that will make your home look and smell amazing.
From the kitchen to the bathroom to the living room, fresh lemons can be used in a variety of ways to spruce up your home. The acidic quality and fresh scent both work to create a cheap, non-toxic cleaner that works great around kids and pets. Take advantage of these simple lemon cleaning hacks around the home. Easy peasy lemon squeezey!
Clean your microwave
If you have stuck-on spills and splatters in your microwave, throw several lemon slices into a bowl of water and microwave on high until boiling and steamy. Allow the steam to sit in the microwave for 15 minutes while it works its magic. Open the door and wipe your microwave clean with ease!
Brighten your faucets
If you want a sparkling, spot-free faucet, use a lemon half to wipe down your faucets. The acidity in the lemon dissolves the hard water minerals on your faucet fixtures. Let the lemon sit for 10 minutes and then rinse clean with water.
Salvage your paintbrushes
This is one of my favorite lemon cleaning hacks! If you’re a DIYer like myself, there’s nothing worse than hardened paintbrushes that have to be thrown away. Before your next project, heat up water with lemon in the microwave until boiling. Submerge your paint bristles in the hot lemon water for 15 minutes and then wash with soap and water.
Polish your furniture
Use lemons to make your own natural furniture polish! Mix one part lemon juice with two parts olive oil and apply to your furniture with a soft cloth. Shake well before each use and enjoy the fresh citrus smell with your shining furniture.
Clean your garbage disposal
Always use your leftover lemon peels in your garbage disposal! With the water running, throw your lemon peels down your garbage disposal for a clean, fresh-smelling drain. The lemon helps cut down the built-up grease and leaves a fresh scent.
Get rid of plastic container stains
Do you ever store leftover spaghetti in a Tupperware container and it turns orange? Nothing seems to get that stain out – except for lemon! Soak your container in a combination of lemon juice and water for about 24 hours and it should come out looking brand new.
Make your home smell amazing
Lemon is the ultimate all-natural air freshener! If you’re dealing with bad odors after cooking fish or painting your home, simply boil water and lemon slices on your stovetop and simmer for about an hour. You’ll be left with a fresh, clean-smelling home.
