I have been wanting to add task lighting to my prep zone in the corner of our kitchen in our third fixer-upper (check out this post on how to design your kitchen around these 4 work zones!)

I found this kit for $29 on Amazon.ย  It had over 1,000 5 star reviews, and I would add myself to that list.ย

I highly recommend it, and the cords you see above are extensions between the lights allowing this kit to work in a variety of places.

You use these plastic clips to anchor the lights to underneath the cabinets.

#1. Plug in the lights and run up the wall.

First, plug the lights in and start running the line from there.  You can connect multiple sets together if you want more than 3 lights.  Above you can see I ran mine between the brick up the corner and then under the cabinet.

#2. Cover the wire to the dimmer with colored duct tape.

White duct tape did the trick.  After the grout goes on I will do the same thing, but add a screw or two through the duct tape to hold the tape in place.

#3. Mark the holes for the anchors.

Hold your light wherever you want it under the cabinet and mark the front of it with a pencil in two places and then screw in the plastic anchors.

A note – plug the light in when you hold it under the cabinet so that you have it placed where the light benefits you most!  Then mark your lines.

#4. Snap the LED strips into the anchors.

Snap the light in and voila.  Connect the line, and run it to the next cabinet.

Rinse and repeat.

I like turning them down a little to give a soft glow in the evening.

I highly recommend this under-kitchen cabinet lighting kit!ย  It could also be used in a hutch, armoire, behind drop crown molding, etc.

  1. We put lights under our cabinets, too, and it makes such a difference! I like how you painted the area under your cabinets a bright white to help reflect the light. Mine is still stock brown. ๐Ÿ™ The previous owner painted the kitchen cabinets black and its such a light sucker, even with the under the cabinets light. I really like what you’ve done with your cabinets to make the whole area brighter.
