Chip Gaines may celebrate “Demo Day,” but at Hammers N Hugs we celebrate “Closing Day.”
If you missed the before tour of our French Country Cottage fixer-upper, then be sure to read about it here and find out where we are headed with this outdated colonial!
It’s crazy to think that our first fixer-upper closing day celebration was 6 years ago.
Here we are in the Vintage Victorian in what would become the master bedroom with little 11-month-old Gracie!
Fast forward 6 years to our third house, the French Country Cottage fixer-upper, and a baby girl who is now writing messages on the wall!
I brought markers (make sure they wash out of clothing!) and the kids got to write and draw on the walls.
Time will tell how much I will regret letting Lily join in on the action once she decides to take a marker to my finished walls.
But look how sweet.
Caleb was way more interested in playing in the old carpet we pulled up.
Just watch the progression of Caleb. Then watch Lily. Monkey see. Monkey do. BTW these are so blurry because Zach was laughing.
Oh my word. It went from Caleb dead fishing into a face plant to Lily doing somersaults.
And then who would have ever thought to pretend to be hot dogs while rolled up in gross old carpet?
Caleb got kicked in the head at least a dozen times. Unfortunately, no hardwood underneath the family room carpet.
Meanwhile, Zach was busy upstairs trying to discover just how much hardwood was lying underneath all that carpet.

Back to the cellphone for light! One of the first things we will address in this house is the lack of overhead lighting. Reminds us of the good ‘ole days in the Vintage Victorian!
We knew the girls’ room had oak plank flooring, but we were anxious to rip up the other two bedrooms, the hallway, and the stairs to see what we could find.
Caleb’s room first . . .
Success in Caleb’s room!
He was so overcome with joy about the hardwood in his room he had to lay down. On the gross, dirty, 30 year old carpet pad. #crazyman
And then our bedroom.
More success! I cannot wait to get these redone. Thinking Minwax Weathered Oak mixed with Special Walnut?? More research on Pinterest is needed here.
Lastly, the big question was whether it progressed into the hallway and then was there hardwood on the stairs?
Gorgeous, pristine oak plank flooring that was even on the steps. #betterthanChristmas
Meanwhile Lily was furious that she couldn’t take her clothing off and get into the “new” tub. #angermanagement
Fun in the girls’ room! Gracie was ALL about drawing on the walls.
And Caleb and Lily??
Peas in a pod these two. #doubletrouble
We haven’t even started yet, but I’m already loving this little cottage cutie.
The front light is officially ON and the Hammers N Hugs crew is at it again! Stop by anytime!
