Super Easy Cut Up T-Shirt Idea
Using a pair of scissors take any old t-shirt from your closet and transform it into a cute top with this super easy cut-up t-shirt idea.
See this old t-shirt?
I have had it for many years, and it has had its day in the sun.
But who needs to spend $30 on a shirt when you can transform a freebie from your drawer into a super cute top with only a scissors and this easy tutorial?
Not me.
I have come up with a couple of tried and true (and EASY) ways to cut up an old t-shirt into a top that you can wear that fits and flatters (like this adorable side knot cut up tee).
Let’s get to it.
You Will Need:
- Fabric scissors
- Old t-shirt
DIY Cut Up T-Shirt Idea
#1. Cut the neck and sleeves along the hemline.
You can make the neckline wider and the sleeves shorter depending on your preferences.
#2. Fold the t-shirt in half vertically and cut according to photo.
Cut horizontally along the sleeve edge to the midway point and then vertically to the bottom edge.
The horizontal cut is where the bottom of the shirt will rest above your pantline. Make sure you leave an extra inch for cotton shirts as they often roll.

#3. Cut off the front vertical flap.
#4. Cut the back flap vertically.

#5. Tie the two smaller vertical flaps into a knot.
Cut the ties down if desired.

Voila!
I cut the edge of this shirt to rest just at the top line of my leggings.
Much less frumpy, and I love when cotton t-shirts roll just slightly at the bottom.
So cute!
