DIY Diffuser For Essential Oils
I do not like alcohol. Never have. Beer, whiskey, wine . . . you name it.
As soon as it hits the little dangly thing in the back of my throat (yes that is the technical term for it) it all wants to come right back out.
HOWEVER. I love the bottles.
The oil diffuser in this tutorial was made from a bottle of Jack Daniels that Zach got as a gift from a friend, and I couldn’t wait to re-purpose that glass! To clarify, Zach treats himself to one glass of whiskey a week so needless to say it is a long while before these beautiful bottles become available!
Also a side note, this bottle is a little bigger than I would normally recommend for a DIY oil diffuser, but it’s gorgeous and still smells fabulous so read on!!

Items List:
- A glass bottle with a narrow opening (<– These vintage glass bottles would be perfect)
- Rattan diffusing reeds (for the optimal diffusion, you need rattan reeds)
- 1/2 c baby oil
- 1/4 c rubbing alcohol
- 50-75 drops essential oil (<— I used Aetos Organic Peppermint.)

#1. Mix the ingredients
Make sure the glass bottle is clean and free of debris. I recommend running it through the dish washer prior to use.
Using a small glass measuring cup or bowl, mix together the baby oil, rubbing alcohol and essential oil of your choice and mix.
I added 75 drops of peppermint oil (make sure you take your time and count the drops out!) because the rubbing alcohol does leave a strong odor.
Some tutorials do not even use alcohol, however the alcohol helps the oils diffuse through the reeds.
If you add enough essential oil the scent of rubbing alcohol is much more subtle. As you can see in the image above initially it will appear cloudy. This does settle into a clear liquid.

#2. Add the diffusing reeds
Add 10-12 rattan diffusing reeds and flip several times to diffuse thoroughly. Flip as needed to refresh the scent.

#3. Add a ribbon of your choice.
Add a ribbon of your choice and voila! So cute and easy! I will often flip the reeds prior to guests coming or as needed (if you know what I mean).
