Easy Chalk Paint Stencil Wood Bench Makeover
Ditch the paintbrush and use this incredible tool from Dixie Belle Chalk Paint to easily add a chalk paint stencil design to any piece!
THIS POST IS SPONSORED BY DIXIE BELLE PAINT, BUT ALL OPINIONS EXPRESSED ARE MY OWN.
Do you remember this bench?
I created this entryway by building a recessed nook for the fridge when we renovated the kitchen.
I have always wanted to add a pretty stencil design to the top of the bench as bench cushions are the most inconvenient accent with young kids in the house.
Stenciling has always intimidated me though. The stencils are difficult to line up and the ability to keep the design clean without smudging always seems to elude me.
Until I discovered the Thing-A-Ma-Jig tool from Dixie Belle Paint. No joke. That is what it is called.
This entire project took me no more than 30 minutes, and I didn’t have to redo any portion of it.
I used Dixie Belle’s Royal Damask Stencil (this one is my personal favorite of their stencils).
Dixie Belle’s Manatee Gray Chalk Paint turned out to be a beautiful light grayish-blue shade.
I finished it off with Dixie Belle’s Clear Wax.

Step 2: Apply the paint with the Thing A Ma Jig Tool.
Pour the paint onto a paper plate as this makes it easier to apply the paint to the Thing A Ma Jig Tool.
The key to a smooth finish is to lightly scrape the paint over the stencil with the tool. Don’t tab it like you would with a sponge.
Smoothly and gently scrape the paint over the stencil.
Try not to go over previously applied areas.
Make sure there is a fair amount of paint on your tool for even application.

Step 3: Remove the stencils while wet.
Remove the stencils while they are still wet. Do not allow to dry prior to removal.

Step 4: Finish with clear wax.
Allow the paint to dry completely and then apply clear wax over the stenciled design.
This helps seal and protect the finish.
